How Billy Bob’s Texas stays flexible with its transit advertising

There are few things more iconic in Fort Worth than the world’s largest Honky-Tonk: Billy Bob’s Texas. A staple of the stockyards district, they’ve got 120,000 square feet of dancing, live music, food, bars and even live bull-riding.

For the past 41 years they’ve brought hundreds of artists into their hallowed halls for some of the best shows around, representing the best in country and contemporary entertainment.

“From the minute we open to the minute we close, you have great dining, drinks, dancing, music, and history,” Katie Cartrette, marketing director for Billy Bob’s, said. “There’s so much history on every single inch of this building. It’s wonderful, and that’s what people keep coming back.”

“Transit advertising is so unique. It’s something outside of the box that we haven’t done before,” Cartrette said.

“We are able to get so much more visibility and reach and at eye level.”

Bringing on a new marketing strategy

With so much history, it’s a surprise that anything is new for them. But Transit Advertising on Trinity Metro was one of those new efforts they needed to showcase and remind the community about what they do best.

As  a full driver-side ad, the ad gets a lot of attention, and she’s incorporated a unique strategy by using something called a snipe, which is an interchangeable element to the ad. The marquee element of the ad is changeable every two weeks.

“I don’t love having past artists being promoted, when we have plenty of other artists coming up that we can put up there and help push ticket sales for them,” Cartrette said. “No outdated information on the bus and hopefully continue to push ticket sales and get people in the door.”

That amalgamation resulted in a rolling work of art that she’s proud to see all over the city.

“I have gotten photos, snapshots from people who have just been eating downtown or somewhere in the stockyards and saw our bus they’ve snapped pictures so really, really excited about that.”

Getting the best bang for your buck with transit advertising

With the ability to change out the marquee to make sure there’s no out of date information, Billy Bob’s has one of the most unique ads in our repertoire and it’s been very effective for them.

So much so that Cartrette has doubled down on Transit advertising.

“I was actually able to pull budget from our digital outdoor that was budgeted last year and put it towards transit advertising. I'm really, really pleased with the results so far.”
